Donatos Pizza was founded in 1963 by Jim Grote, a college sophomore at the Ohio State University. With $1,300 in his pocket and a dream to own his own business, Jim bought a small pizzeria on the south side of Columbus, Ohio and went to work with his parents creating a business that was truly unique. Kenneth Tyson, also a graduate of The Ohio State University, has opened one of Lakewood’s best pizza shops located at the corner of Detroit Road and West Clifton. Our story is a simple one. It all started over 30 years ago in 1969, using a family recipe passed down to her from her father Augie, Teresa and her family opened their first store in Maple Heights. Only the best ingredients were used. The dough was made fresh daily. The pizza sauce was made from scratch and simmered to perfection. The toppings for the pizzas were prepared fresh daily. All of these efforts to focus on the small details created one of the finest pizzas in the Cleveland area. And the business grew.
